Head Coach Peter Laviolette is clearly on the hot seat right now, but he isn’t the only coach under fire in this game. It is clear that Head Coach John Tortorella needs to string some wins together over the course of the end of the season as well if he wants to keep his address in the Big Apple for next season. The problem that both of these teams are having right now is scoring goals. The Rangers have averaged just 1.3 goals per game in their last seven games. Philly is right there, averaging 1.5 goals per game in its last six. Needless to say, this is a tough one to try to handicap for our NHL picks. The constant for the Rangers has been the fact that G Henrik Lundqvist has still been particularly good in net. He hasn’t been remarkable, but still has posted a 2.21 GAA and a .921 save percentage in spite of the fact that he only has a 13-12-2 record for the campaign. We all know that G Ilya Bryzgalov has struggled, but he is the only factor that really points to this game potentially featuring some goals. As a result, we’re going to play the ‘under’, figuring that these two offenses are going to continue to fail to get out of their own way.
